Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah is pleased with His servant when he eats a morsel and praises Allah for it, or drinks a sip of water and praises Allah for it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Atris bin Arqoob, he says that Hazrat Abdullah said: Whoever, at the time of serving food, says: In the name of Allah, who has the best name. Whatever is in the earth and the heavens belongs to Allah. With His name, no illness harms. O Allah! Grant blessing, well-being, and healing in this food. Then, this food, whatever it may be, will not cause harm.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when you eat food and forget to say Bismillah, then say: Bismillah at its beginning and its end.

It is narrated from Tamim bin Salamah that he said, 'I was told this hadith': When a person takes the name of Allah before his food and praises Allah at the end, then that person will not be questioned about the blessings of that food.

It is narrated from Hazrat Harith bin Suwaid. He says that when Hazrat Salman finished eating, he would say: All praise is for Allah who spared us from hardships and granted us abundant sustenance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed, he says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would eat food, he would say: All praise is for Allah who fed us and gave us drink and made us Muslims.

Hazrat Hilal narrates about Hazrat Urwah that when food was placed before him, he would say: "You are pure. How beautiful it is. You are pure. How beautiful things You have granted us. O our Lord! O Lord of our children and O Lord of our forefathers." The narrator says: Then he would take the name of Allah, the Exalted, and place his hand (on the food).

Hazrat Dhakwan Abi Salih narrates about Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that food was presented to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said: Prepare a sauce (gravy) with it as well. People asked: What is its sauce? She replied: When you have finished (eating), then praise Allah Almighty for it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ismail bin Abi Saeed. He says that when food was placed before Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri, he would say: All praise is for Allah who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims.

Hazrat Ismail bin Abi Saeed narrates a similar tradition from his father.

Hazrat Ibn Aba’d … or Ibn Ma’bad … narrates that he says Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you know what is the right of food? I asked: What is its right? He said: You should say, “Bismillah! O Allah! Bless whatever You provide us as sustenance.” Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you know what is the gratitude for food? I asked: What is its gratitude? He said: You should say, “All praise is for Allah who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims.”

It is narrated about Ibrahim Taimi that he used to say: All praise is due to Allah who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hisham that he says: Nothing of food or drink was brought to my father, not even a sip of medicine, which he would eat or drink, except that he would say: All praise is for Allah who guided us and fed us. He gave us drink and bestowed blessings upon us. Allah is the Greatest. O Allah! Your blessings have reached us despite all evil, and we have reached morning and evening with complete goodness. We ask You for complete blessings and gratitude for them. There is no goodness except that which You grant. There is no deity except You. O Lord of the righteous! O Lord of the worlds. All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. There is no deity except Allah. (It happens) only what Allah wills. Strength is from Allah. O Allah! Bless the sustenance You have provided us and save us from the punishment of Hell.

Hazrat Ata bin As-Saib narrates about Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair that when he finished his food, he would say: O Allah! You have entrusted (this) to us and You have quenched (our thirst), so make (it) pleasant for us, and You have provided for us, and given much, and given well, so grant us more.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair that he said: When food is served, recite Bismillah once, then whatever else is brought, eat it, and that first Bismillah will suffice for you.
