Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Whoever drank alcohol in the world will not drink it in the Hereafter, unless he repents."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks alcohol and lets it enter his stomach, his prayer will not be accepted for seven days. If he dies during these days, he will die as a disbeliever. And if the alcohol causes him to lose his senses regarding any of the obligatory duties, then his prayer will not be accepted for forty days, and if he dies during these days, he will die as a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: It is more beloved to me to commit adultery than to drink alcohol, because if I drink alcohol, (inevitably) I will abandon prayer, and whoever abandons prayer has no religion.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The habitual drinker of alcohol is like the worshipper of Lat and Uzza.

Hazrat Abu Burdah narrates from Janab Abu Musa that he used to say that I do not care whether I drink alcohol or worship this pillar besides Allah (i.e., both things are severe sins).

It is narrated from Hazrat Sulaiman bin Habib that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: If I were to dip my finger into wine, I would not like it to return to me (in a sound and pure state).

It is narrated from Hazrat Urwah bin Ruwaym, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The first thing my Lord forbade me was drinking alcohol, worshipping idols, and quarrelling."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Shaddad, who says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Wine itself has been declared unlawful. A small amount of wine is unlawful and a large amount of wine is also unlawful, and from every drink, the limit of intoxication (intoxication itself) is unlawful.

Hazrat Saad bin Ibrahim narrates from his father that he heard Hazrat Uthman delivering a sermon. When Hazrat Uthman mentioned wine, he said, "It gathers many evils," or he said, "It is the mother of evils." Then he related an incident about the Children of Israel. He said: A man was given the choice to either kill a child, destroy a scripture, or drink wine. He preferred to drink wine, but then he ended up committing all those acts.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq, he says that one who drinks alcohol is like one who worships idols.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A habitual drinker of alcohol is like an idol worshipper."

Hazrat Yahya bin Abbad bin Abdullah bin Zubair narrates from his father that he said: We were present with Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when, during that time, near her door, she heard a sound and asked, "What is this?" People informed her that a person was being punished for drinking alcohol. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Subhan Allah! I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When an adulterer commits adultery, he does not commit adultery while in a state of faith; when a person drinks alcohol, he does not drink it while in a state of faith; when a thief steals, he does not steal while in a state of faith.' So beware, so beware."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah, he says that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person commits adultery, he does not commit adultery while in a state of faith, and when a person steals, he does not steal while in a state of faith, and when a person drinks alcohol, he does not drink alcohol while in a state of faith. The one who snatches wealth, whose snatching is watched by people with raised eyes, does not snatch wealth while in a state of faith."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A person who drinks alcohol, when he drinks alcohol, he is not in a state of faith."

Hazrat Nafi narrates about Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that he used to forbid giving animals alcohol to drink.

Hazrat Nafi narrates regarding Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that it came to his (Ibn Umar's) knowledge that some women comb their hair with wine. So Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: May Allah place hasah (a disease that causes hair loss) in their heads.

Hazrat Abu Safar narrates from his wife that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about a woman who combs her hair with a piece of honeycomb in which wine has been poured. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) strictly forbade this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: "The woman who combs (her hair) with khumr, Allah Almighty does not purify her."

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi', he says that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) had a Bactrian she-camel and it became ill. So I was told to treat it with wine. Thus, I treated it, then I told Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), people had told me regarding it that I should treat it with wine. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "Then did you do this?" I replied, "No," although I had done it. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "If you had done this, I would have punished you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The one addicted to wine will not enter Paradise, nor will the disobedient to parents enter, nor will the one who reminds others of his favors enter.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "One who is disobedient to parents, one who is addicted to alcohol, and one who reminds others of his favors will not enter Paradise."

It is narrated from Hazrat Qais bin Abadah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, my Lord has declared wine, dice, and qanin, that is, the sarangi (a musical instrument), to be forbidden for me." Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware, avoid maize wine, for it is the wine of the whole world."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says that when the command regarding the prohibition of khamr was revealed, there were five drinks in Madinah, all of which were called khamr, and among them, grape khamr was not included.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaddad, he says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Mi'raj, a mount was brought to him until he reached Bayt al-Maqdis. Then two vessels were brought to him. One vessel contained wine and the other contained milk. So, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) chose the milk. Upon this, Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) said, "You have been guided, and your Ummah has also been guided."

It is narrated from Ibrahim Taimi, he says that Hazrat Ash'ari said: "It is more beloved to me that I pray towards this pillar than that I drink alcohol."

It is narrated from Hasan, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It does not please me that I drink a vessel of wine and give in charity gold equal to it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, advised some of his family members not to drink alcohol, because drinking alcohol is the key to every evil.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dawood, who says that I was present near the pulpit with Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in the place of Mada'in. Then he praised and glorified Allah Almighty and then said: "Amma ba'd: Indeed, the one who sells alcohol and the one who drinks alcohol are equal in sin."

Hazrat Zubaid narrates regarding Hazrat Khaythamah that Hazrat Zubaid heard Hazrat Khaythamah say: I was sitting in the company of Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), and the mention of major sins came up, and the mention of alcohol also arose. At this, a man considered alcohol to be a minor sin, so Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No man drinks alcohol in the morning except that he spends the night in a state of polytheism.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man bin Abi Ayyash, he says that we sent a messenger to Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) with the purpose to ask him: Among the major sins, which sin is the greatest? He replied: Alcohol. We again sent a messenger to him, and he again replied: Alcohol. Because whoever drinks alcohol, his prayer is not accepted for seven days, and if he becomes intoxicated from it, then his prayer is not accepted for forty days, and if he dies during this period, he will die the death of ignorance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Dailami, he says that I asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) about a person who drinks alcohol? He replied: The prayer of that person is not accepted for forty days or forty nights.

Hazrat Hisham narrates regarding Hasan that he said about a vessel into which a drop of blood or wine falls, that vessel should be thrown away.
