Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Muslim Batīn. He says that I asked Abu Amr Shaibani about Ja‘ah. In reply, he said: It is a drink from Yemen which is made from barley.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas, who says that Hantham is a red pitcher which used to come to us from Egypt.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salat bin Bahram, he says that I asked Ibrahim about Hantham? So he replied: These are red-colored jars coated with tar. They used to be brought from the region of Syria. They are called Hantham.

Hazrat Abu al-Harith Taymi narrates from Hazrat Umm Ma‘bad, who says: I asked, “What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about these vessels?” She replied: “You have come to one who is well-informed (i.e., you have asked someone who knows).” In any case: Hanatim: The Hanatim of the non-Arabs—these were vessels in which a person could enter and clean them. Vessels for wine. And Dubba’: This is a (man-made) vessel of gourd. And Muzaffat: This is a waterskin in which tar has been mixed inside, and its exterior is also colored with tar. Vessels for wine. And Naqir: This is the trunk of a tree whose roots remain in the ground, and it is hollowed out from inside to make a vessel.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila, he says that Hanatim were red-colored pitchers which were mixed with tar, and they were brought from the land of Egypt, and these were not green-colored pitchers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila, he says that "Hantam" is a green-colored jar in which wine used to be kept, and that jar was brought from Egypt.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair. He says that Hantam are complete pitchers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ishaq Shaibani, he says that I asked Hazrat Abu Burdah, "What is Bit‘?" He replied: "It is a drink made from honey." And Mirz is what is called a drink made from barley.
