Hadiths from Those Who Dislike Visiting Soothsayers, Magicians, and Astrologers
Hadith 25069
٢٥٠٦٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن علية عن حجاج الصواف عن يحيى بن أبي كثيو عن هلال بن أبي ميمون عن عطاء بن يسار عن معاوية بن الحكم السلمي قال: قلت يا رسول اللَّه إني حديث عهد بجاهلية، وقد جاء اللَّه بالإسلام، وإن منا رجالًا يأتون الكهان، قال: "فلا (تأتهم) (١) " (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah bin Hakam Salmi. He says: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have come (to Islam) recently from the time of ignorance, when Allah Almighty has granted Islam. And among us, some people go to astrologers." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not go to astrologers."
Hadith 25070
٢٥٠٧٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا (أبو) (١) معاوية قال: حدثنا الشيباني عن جامع بن شداد عن الأسود بن هلال قال: قال علي: إن هؤلاء (العرافين) (٢) كهان العجم، فمن أتى كاهنا يؤمن بما يقول: فقد برئ مما أنزل اللَّه على محمد ﷺ (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Aswad bin Hilal. He says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely these astrologers are the soothsayers of the Persians. So whoever goes to a soothsayer and affirms what he says, then indeed he has disassociated himself from what Allah the Exalted has revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 25071
٢٥٠٧١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش (عن مسلم) (١) عن مسروق (عن) (٢) عبد اللَّه قال: لدرهم (قسي) (٣) خير من (قلب) (٤) رجل يأتي العراف (٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah who says that a dirham earned through falsehood is better than the heart of a person who goes to a soothsayer.
Hadith 25072
٢٥٠٧٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن الزهري عن أبي بكر عن أبي (مسعود) (١) (أن) (٢) النبي ﵇ (٣) نهى عن حلوان الكاهن (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Masood that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking payment for soothsaying.
Hadith 25073
٢٥٠٧٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يحيى بن آدم ووكيع (قالا) (١): حدثنا سفيان عن أبي إسحاق عن هبيرة عن عبد اللَّه قال: من مشى إلى ساحر أو كاهن أو عراف فصدقه مما يقول: فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد ﷺ (٢) (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah. He says that whoever goes to a magician, fortune-teller, or astrologer and affirms what he says, then indeed that person has denied the religion which Allah Almighty revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
