Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A mortgaged animal may be ridden if it is an animal, and its milk may be drunk, and whoever drinks its milk or rides it, its maintenance is upon him.

It was asked from Hazrat Sha'bi about the slave given in mortgage, so he said: His maintenance is upon the mortgagor.

Hazrat Sufyan says that the maintenance of the pledged property is the responsibility of the pledger.

Hazrat Hasan bin Salih says that the maintenance of the pawned item is the responsibility of the pawnee because it is in his guarantee, and Hazrat Abu Hanifa says that the maintenance is the responsibility of the pawnor.

Hazrat Yahya bin Adam states that I asked Hazrat Shareek, if an animal is given as collateral, who will be responsible for its maintenance? He replied: The mortgagor.

Hazrat Rabee' says that I asked Hazrat Abu Ja'far (may Allah have mercy on him) that I bought wheat from a person, then he gave me some, then his stock of food ran out. He had nothing left to give me. He said, "Sell me from your wheat so that I can give you (your remaining share)?" Hazrat Abu Ja'far replied: "Do not go near this at all, this is clear usury."
