Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim sold the daughter of his slave woman. Hazrat Mansur says that I asked him, "Is it not disliked to separate a mother and her daughter?" Ibrahim replied, "But her mother was content with it; she was given another in her place."

Hazrat Aamir, Hazrat Ata, and Hazrat Muhammad bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) say that there is no harm in separating a mother and her child at the time of sale.

Hasan says that if the children have reached the age of puberty, then there is no harm. Hazrat Waki’ says that there will be no separation among the prisoners, and if the children are independent of their mothers, then there is no harm.

Hazrat Aamir and Hazrat Abu Ja'far disliked separating prisoners, however, they did not consider it objectionable to do so with newborn children.
