Rent of Market Shops
Hadith 23850
٢٣٨٥٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا حسن بن صالح عن أبيه قال: كتب عمر بن عبد العزيز ألا يؤخذ من أهل السوق (أجر) (١).
Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote: Rent should not be collected from the people of the market.
Hadith 23851
٢٣٨٥١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا يحيى بن (أبي) (١) (الهيثم) (٢) العطار عن الأصبغ بن نباتة قال: كنا في زمان علي: من سبق إلى مكان في السوق كان أحق به إلى الليل (٣).
Hazrat Al-Asbagh narrates that during the time of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), our practice was that whoever acquired a spot in the market first would remain the owner of that spot until the evening.
Hadith 23852
٢٣٨٥٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا (وكيع قال: حدثنا) (١) محمد بن (تميم) (٢) ⦗٣٥٣⦘ (الراسبي) (٣) قال: سألت الحسن عن دكاكين السوق فكره بيعها وشراءها وإجارتها.
It was asked from Hasan about the shops and platforms in the market. He disliked their buying, selling, and renting.
Hadith 23853
٢٣٨٥٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا إسرائيل عن زياد بن فياض عن رجل من أهل المدينة، قال: دخل عمر بن الخطاب السوق وهو راكب، فرأى دكانا قد أحدث في السوق، فكسره (١).
Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the market riding, and he saw some new shops in the market, so he demolished them.
Hadith 23854
٢٣٨٥٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يحيى بن آدم عن الحسن عن مجالد بن سعيد قال: أول من أخذ من السوق أجرا زياد.
Hazrat Mujahid says that Ziyad was the first to collect rent from the people of the market.
