Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Sulaiman (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked ‘Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him), “Why is the earnings of a barber disliked?” He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: “It has not been disliked.”

Hazrat Abu Qalabah says that if the cupper does not suck the blood, then I do not see any harm in that earning.

Hazrat Zaid bin Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) about the earnings of a cupper (barber). Both of them did not consider there to be any harm in it and recited this verse of the Holy Qur'an: { قُلْ لاَ أَجِدُ فِیمَا أُوحِیَ إلَیَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَی طَاعِمٍ یَطْعَمُہُ }

Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that I do not like the wages and earnings of a barber and a bathhouse attendant.

Hazrat Harith, may Allah have mercy on him, had a slave who was a barber.

Hazrat Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the earnings from barbering. He (may Allah have mercy on him) did not consider there to be any harm in it.

The father of Hazrat Haram bin Sa’d bin Muhiṣah (may Allah have mercy on him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the earnings of a cupper. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it. He kept conversing with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Feed a camel with that money or feed a slave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done by Abu Taybah the cupper, and gave him two sa’ of food, and spoke to his family, so they reduced his grain (tax/dues).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done by a cupper named Abu Taybah, and asked him, "What is your fee?" He replied, "Three sa’." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reduced one sa’ from it and gave him his wage (two sa’).

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there is no harm in the earnings of a barber which he earns with scissors.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done and gave wages to the cupper. If the earnings of the cupper were unlawful, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not have given it to him.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I was present in the service of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). A slave of his was shaving his head. I asked, "What will you do with this wage?" He replied, "I will eat from it myself and I will also feed him from it." He pointed with his hand towards the mouth of the slave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done, then asked the cupper, "How much is your fee?" He replied, "Two sa’." The cupper reduced one sa’ for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me, and I gave him one sa’.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done and gave a wage for it, and if there had been anything objectionable in this earning, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not have given it.

A woman came to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said, "I am from Iraq. I have a slave who works as a barber. The people of Iraq think that I consume earnings from blood." He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "They do not think anything. You consume the earnings of your slave, not the earnings of blood."

Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done and gave the cupper one dinar as wages.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there is no harm if a person gets cupped and does not make a condition with the cupper.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the earnings of a cupper are a bribe.

Hazrat Sufyan, Hazrat Mansur, and Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on them) disliked the earnings of a cupper (bloodletter).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade earning from cupping.

Hazrat Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) bought a slave who was a barber. He (may Allah be pleased with him) broke his tools and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade earnings from blood.

It is narrated from Hazrat Urwah (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a barber for the young men of the Ansar. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed them to use his earnings for the fodder of camels.

It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The earnings from cupping, the earnings from the dowry of a prostitute, and the price of a dog are forbidden.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked the earnings of a barber.
