Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Al-Hayaj narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as the governor of a region and instructed me to administer an oath by Allah to the People of the Book.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah took an oath from the polytheist in the name of Allah.

Hazrat Masruq swore an oath by Allah to the polytheists.

Ibrahim says that an oath by Allah will also be taken from a polytheist, but strictness will be exercised with him regarding his religion.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that Ka'b bin Soor admitted a non-Muslim into a church, placed the Torah on his head, and made him swear by Allah.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Shurayh used to administer oaths to the polytheists by Allah, even though they disliked it.

Hazrat Abu al-Ghasn narrates that once a Christian began to swear by Allah in the presence of Hazrat Sha’bi. Hazrat Sha’bi said, “You have abandoned Allah, and you see as well.” Then he ordered that the man be taken to the church and made to swear by whatever the people of his religion swear by.

Hazrat Ata was asked whether an oath should be taken from a Jew or a Christian on the Torah and the Gospel. He replied that they will swear by Allah, because the Torah and the Gospel are Allah's books.

Hazrat Shurayh says that the polytheists used to swear by their religion.
