Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Muslim bin Subaih narrates that a man from Basra passed by me who was selling copies of the Qur'an. I went to Masruq bin Akwa', Hazrat Abdullah bin Yazid Ansari, and Hazrat Shurayh and asked them about it. They replied, "We do not like to receive a price in exchange for the Book of Allah."

Hazrat Ubaidah has considered the buying and selling of copies of the Qur'an as undesirable (makruh).

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I wish that the hands of those who sell copies of the Qur'an would be cut off."

Ibrahim says that being stung by bees is more beloved to me than selling copies of the Qur'an. Ibrahim considered the wage for Qur'an copies to be disliked.

Ibrahim considered the selling of copies of the Qur'an to be disliked and said that any member of the household may read from the copies, and writing them in exchange for payment is also disliked.

Hazrat Salim says that the worst trade is selling copies of the Qur'an.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin considered the buying and selling of copies of the Qur'an to be disliked (makruh).

Hazrat Abu Duhā states that I asked Hazrat Shurayh, Hazrat Masrūq, and Hazrat Abdullah bin Yazīd about the sale of copies of the Qur'an, so they said: Do not take a price for the Book of Allah.

Ibrahim says that I asked Hazrat Alqamah, "Can I sell the Mushaf?" He replied, "No."
