Hazrat Mujahid says that there is no harm in auction sales. Khums used to be sold in this manner.

Hazrat Mak'hool has declared auction sales as disliked, however, the participants may transact among themselves.

Hazrat Amr bin Muhajir says that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent Ameero bin Yazid Filastini so that he could auction the prisoners. When he returned after completing the task, Hazrat Umar asked him, "Was there any sale today?" He replied, "O Commander of the Faithful! If I had not personally gone and raised the bids, today would have been a dull day." Hazrat Umar asked him, "Did you bid without the intention of buying, merely to raise the price?" He admitted it, so Hazrat Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "This is najsh; it is not permissible. O Ameero! Announce that the sale is void and najsh is not permissible."

Hazrat Hisham Khuzai states that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) auctioned and sold the camels of Zakat.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from an Ansari that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sold a mat and a bowl through auction.

Hazrat Hammad says that if there is an intention to buy, then there is no harm in raising the price by bidding.

Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin have considered the sale by auction as disliked, except in matters of inheritance and spoils.

Hazrat Mujahid and Hazrat Ata state that there is no harm in selling by auction.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far Khatmi narrates that Hazrat Mughira bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) sold the spoils of war through auction sale.
