Which Birds and Animals Are Prohibited to Eat
Hadith 21043
٢١٠٤٣ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن الزهري (عن أبي إدريس) (١) عن أبي ثعلبة قال: نهى رسول اللَّه ﷺ عن أكل كل ذي ناب من السباع (٢).
Hazrat Abu Tha'labah narrates that the Prophet ﷺ forbade eating every animal with fangs.
Hadith 21044
٢١٠٤٤ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن عبد الرحمن بن (يزيد) (١) (بن) (٢) جابر قال: نا القاسم ومكحول عن أبي أمامة أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ نهى يوم خيبر عن كل ذي ناب من السباع (٣).
Hazrat Abu Umamah narrates that the Prophet ﷺ forbade eating predatory animals with fangs during the Battle of Khaybar.
Hadith 21045
٢١٠٤٥ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة (عن) (١) محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة عن أبي هريرة أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ حرم يوم خيبر كل ذي (ناب) (٢) من السباع (٣).
Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Prophet ﷺ forbade eating every predatory animal with fangs during the Battle of Khaybar.
Hadith 21046
٢١٠٤٦ - حدثنا هشيم (عن) (١) أبي بشر عن ميمون بن مهران عن ابن ⦗٢١٢⦘ عباس قال: نهى عن كل (ذي) (٢) ناب من السباع وعن كل ذي مخلب من الطير (٣).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ forbade eating every predatory animal with fangs and every bird that hunts with its talons.
Hadith 21047
٢١٠٤٧ - حدثنا (هاشم) (١) بن القاسم عن عكرمة بن عمار عن يحيى بن أبي كثير عن أبي سلمة عن جابر قال: حرم رسول اللَّه ﷺ يوم خيبر كل ذي ناب من السباع، وكل ذي مخلب من الطير (٢).
Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Khaybar forbade eating every predatory animal with fangs and every bird that hunts with its talons.
Hadith 21048
٢١٠٤٨ - [حدثنا يحيى بن آدم عن أبي عوانة عن أبي بشر عن ميمون بن مهران عن ابن عباس قال: نهى رسول اللَّه ﷺ عن كل ذي ناب من السباع، وعن كل ذي مخلب من الطير] (١) (٢).
Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating predatory animals with fangs and birds that hunt with their talons on the day of Khaybar.
Hadith 21049
٢١٠٤٩ - حدثنا (أبو) (١) أسامة عن ابن عون عن محمد قال: كانوا يكرهون كل ذي مخلب من الطير وكل سبع (ذي ناب) (٢).
Muhammad says that the predecessors considered birds that hunt with talons and animals with fangs to be unlawful.
Hadith 21050
٢١٠٥٠ - حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن منصور عن إبراهيم قال: كانوا يكرهون من ⦗٢١٣⦘ الطير ما أكل (الجيف) (١).
Ibrahim states that the predecessors considered birds that eat carrion to be disliked.
Hadith 21051
٢١٠٥١ - حدثنا (أبو بكر) (١) (قال) (٢): نا عبد الرحيم عن ليث عن مجاهد قال: كل شيء (لقط) (٣) من الطير فليس به بأس، وكل شيء نهش بمنقاره أو أخذ (بمخلبه) (٤) فكان يكره (لحمه) (٥)، وكان يكره لحم (الصرد) (٦).
Hazrat Mujahid says that a bird that eats by pecking is completely lawful. One that hunts with its beak and claws is disliked. He considered the meat of the vulture to be disliked.
Hadith 21052
٢١٠٥٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ابن (أبي) (١) نجيح قال: قلت لمجاهد إن اليهود لا يأكلون (من) (٢) الطير (إلا) (٣) ما لقط، قال: فأعجب ذلك (مجاهدًا) (٤).
Hazrat Ibn Abi Najih says that I said to Hazrat Mujahid that the Jews only eat those birds that peck. Hazrat Mujahid approved of this statement.
Hadith 21053
٢١٠٥٣ - حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن يحيى بن سعيد عن القاسم قال: كانت عائشة إذا سئلت عن كل ذي ناب من السباع، وكل ذي مخلب من الطير قالت: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا (عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ) (١)﴾، ثم تقول: إن ⦗٢١٤⦘ (البرمة) (٢) (لتكون) (٣) فيها (الصفرة) (٤) (٥).
Hazrat Qasim narrates that when Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about predatory animals and birds with sharp talons, she would recite this verse { لاَ أَجِدُ فِیمَا أُوحِیَ إلَیَّ مُحَرَّمًا }
Hadith 21054
٢١٠٥٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن معمر عن موسى عن أبي جعفر أنه كره أكل سباع الطير وسباع الوحش.
Hazrat Abu Ja'far has declared the eating of ferocious predators and beasts as disliked (makruh).
