Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Bakhtari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) complained to Allah Almighty about the character of Hazrat Sarah. Allah Almighty revealed to him that a woman is like a rib; if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and if you leave her, she will remain crooked. Live with her despite her habits.

Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from the pulpit of Basra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Woman was created from a rib; if you try to straighten the rib, you will break it. Live your life with kindness towards her. Live your life with kindness towards her.

Hazrat Aws bin Thareeb, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I entered Masjid al-Haram with the intention of Hajj, and in the mosque were Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, and Hazrat Jareer, may Allah be pleased with him. Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, asked Hazrat Jareer, may Allah be pleased with him, "O Abu Amr, may Allah be pleased with him! How is your conduct with your women?" He replied, "I face much strictness from them. I cannot enter the room of any of them without my turn. If I kiss the child of any of them on a day other than his mother's turn, they become angry." Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Among them are many women who do not have faith in Allah nor do they accept the believers. Rather, if you ever need any of them, they will put the blame on you." Upon this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "O Commander of the Faithful! Have you not heard that Hazrat Ibrahim, peace be upon him, complained to Allah Almighty about the manners and disobedience of Hazrat Sarah, may Allah be pleased with her, so it was said to him that a woman is like a rib; if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and if you leave her, you will leave her crooked. Despite their habits, live with them." Hearing this, Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said three times to Hazrat Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, "There is much knowledge in your heart."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Treat women well. Woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its upper part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it. If you leave it, it will remain crooked. So treat women well.

Hazrat Naeem bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) once presented himself before Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and complained about the bad manners of his wives. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the trouble you are facing, I am also facing. Whenever I go to the market or meet people, or buy an animal or cloth, they say that he goes to the market to look at girls and sends them proposals for marriage! Upon hearing this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) complained to Allah Almighty about the manners and disobedience of Hazrat Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her), so it was said to him that a woman is like a rib; if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and if you leave her, you will leave her crooked. Despite their habits, live with them.
