Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a free woman will not be compelled to breastfeed the child, whereas an umm walad will be compelled.

Hazrat Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a woman has a nursing child, she has the most right to breastfeed him, and she will receive the same compensation as other women if she accepts to breastfeed. And if she does not accept, then the child will be breastfed by someone else. If the child starts drinking the milk of another woman, that is fine; otherwise, his mother will be compelled to breastfeed him and she will be given her due payment.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { وَإِنْ تَعَاسَرْتُمْ فَسَتُرْضِعُ لَہُ أُخْرَی } of the Holy Qur'an, says that if suckling is established for something, then the mother has more right to it.

Hazrat Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if the child does not drink the milk of any other woman and his life is in danger, then the mother will be compelled to breastfeed him.
