Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an, says that the heir is obliged to do what was obligatory upon the father, that is, to arrange for the child's milk.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ }, states that the heir is obliged to do what was obligatory upon the father, that is, to arrange for her milk.

Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) and Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him), in the explanation of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ }, state that it refers to making arrangements for the child's milk.

20281 - And Hammad from Ibrahim said: The suckling of the boy.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) says in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an that it means making arrangements for the child's milk.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that providing for the wet nurse is obligatory upon the heir, but providing for the pregnant woman is not obligatory.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that he will not be harmed.

Hazrat Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an, states that if the father passes away and leaves behind a small child, then if the father has wealth, the child's milk will be arranged from his wealth, and if there is no wealth, then this responsibility will fall upon the agnates.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that once some people brought an orphan child to Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and requested that arrangements be made for his maintenance. He replied that even if I find his distant relatives, I will make his maintenance obligatory upon them.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Utbah said to the guardian of an orphan, "If he did not have wealth, I would have made it obligatory upon you to provide for him, because Allah Almighty says { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ }"

Hazrat Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an, states that it means the maintenance of the child is obligatory upon the father; if he is not present, then it is obligatory upon the male relatives, and if they are also not present, then the mother will be ordered to breastfeed. If the child does not drink milk from anyone other than the mother, then she will be compelled to breastfeed the child.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), in the explanation of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ }, says that it is obligatory upon the heir that he should not cause any harm to it.

Hazrat Dhahhak, in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an, says that it is obligatory upon the heir not to let it suffer any loss.
