Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked that if a person caught a thief, then people gathered around him and demanded that he release the thief. He said that if he released him, his wife would have three divorces. Then the thief overpowered him and escaped from him, so Hazrat Ata said that nothing is incumbent upon him; the thief had overpowered him.
