Hazrat Ziyad bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him): If a dhimmi woman is divorced or her husband dies and she becomes Muslim during her waiting period (‘iddah), then how long should she observe ‘iddah? He replied: After accepting Islam, the rulings for Muslim women will apply to her.

Hazrat Abu Hurrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: If a Christian woman, who was married to a Christian man, accepts Islam, should separation be established between them? He replied: Yes, she will have to observe the waiting period (iddah), which is three menstrual cycles or three months.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: If a woman's Christian husband dies and the woman accepts Islam, how long will she observe 'iddah? He replied: Four months and ten days.
