If a Man Dies While Married to a Slave Woman and She Is Freed After His Death, What Is the Ruling?
Hadith 19871
١٩٨٧١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا جرير بن عبد الحميد عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم في ⦗٣٦١⦘ امرأة مات عنها زوجها ثم أعتقت قال: تمضي على عدة الأمة، وليس لها إلا عدة الأمة.
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if the husband of a slave woman passes away and then she is set free, she will observe the waiting period (iddah) prescribed for a slave woman.
Hadith 19872
١٩٨٧٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا عمر بن زرعة عن ابن سالم عن الشعبي أنه كان يقول: إذا توفي عنها زوجها وهي مملوكة؛ فأدركها العتق؛ وهي في عدتها (فتتم) (١) أربعة أشهر وعشرًا.
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a slave woman’s husband passes away and then she is also set free while she is in her waiting period ('iddah), she will complete four months and ten days.
