Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Do not mix anything with the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace be upon him); the waiting period (‘iddah) of an umm walad is the same as that of a woman whose husband has passed away.

Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Abu Ayyaz (may Allah be pleased with him) state that the waiting period (‘iddah) of an umm walad slave-woman is the same as that of a free woman whose husband has passed away.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when the master of an Umm Walad slave woman passes away, her waiting period (‘iddah) is four months and ten days.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) and Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) say that when the master of an umm walad slave woman passes away, her waiting period ('iddah) is four months and ten days.

Hazrat Hakam bin Utaybah (may Allah have mercy on him) asked Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) about the waiting period (‘iddah) of an umm walad slave-woman after the death of her master, so he replied that there is a Sunnah regarding this. He asked, "What is the Sunnah?" He replied that when Hazrat Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was set free, she observed the waiting period of a free woman.
