Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the highest form of Muta’ (benefit) is providing a servant, then lesser than that is providing clothing, and then lesser than that is providing sustenance.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the lowest form of Muta’ is cloth, and the highest is a servant.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the moderate mahr is a sheet, a scarf, and a shawl.

Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says regarding the provision (mut'ah) for a divorced woman that it consists of household garments: a scarf, a sheet, a shawl, and a large sheet.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that people used to give Muta’ (temporary marriage) to their wives; some would give a servant, some would give two hundred, some would give a sheet, a scarf, and a shawl, and some would give maintenance.

Hazrat Ibn Shihab Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the highest form of gift is a servant, then clothing, and then maintenance.
