Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Sha’sa’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a man from the area made ila’ (oath of abstinence) from his wife, then that woman became affected by nifas (postnatal bleeding), so I asked Hazrat Alqama, Hazrat Aswad, and Hazrat Masruq (may Allah be pleased with them) about this. They said that when he verbally declared the breaking of the oath, then the oath was broken.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when a man has made *ila* (an oath to abstain from his wife), but due to illness, preoccupation, or some excuse, he was prevented from intercourse, yet the man appointed witnesses upon his retraction of the oath, then this is sufficient.

Hazrat Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when someone repents with his tongue, then this is repentance.

Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a person has taken an oath of abstinence (ila) from his wife, then he became ill, or he was on a distant journey away from his wife, or his wife became menstruating, then he should take someone as a witness upon reconciliation.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) say that if a man has an excuse, then upon returning to his wife, he should take someone as a witness.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when a man has taken an oath of abstinence (ila) from his wife and has taken witnesses upon his return (to her), then that is sufficient.
