Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that whoever makes an oath of abstinence (ila) from his wife for ten days, the ruling of ila will apply to him.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) and Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) say that if a person makes ila (an oath of abstinence) from his wife for one month, and then four months pass, then one irrevocable divorce (talaq bain) takes place.

Hazrat Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a person says to his wife, "By Allah! I will not go near you today," and then leaves her for four months, then this is Ilaa.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if an oath is sworn for less than four months, then also Ila has taken place.

Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man swears that he will not go near his wife for a month, then he is one who has performed Ilaa.
