Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: If a person wants to say something to his wife but, by mistake, utters words of divorce to his wife, what is the ruling? He replied: A word uttered by mistake does not harm a believer.

Hazrat Aamir (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) were asked: If a person wants to say something to his wife but mistakenly utters words of divorce to his wife, what is the ruling? Hazrat Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that this is nothing, whereas Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) said that divorce will take place.
