Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked in a gathering about giving three divorces at once. He replied that by doing so, a person becomes sinful in the sight of Allah, but his wife becomes forbidden to him.

A man came to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) and said that his uncle had given three divorces to his wife. He replied, "Your uncle has disobeyed Allah; may Allah disgrace him. Now he has no option left."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man was brought to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who had given his wife three divorces in one sitting. He punished him and separated the two.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) whether it is permissible for a man to give his wife three divorces at once. He replied that he should give the divorces in separate sittings.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that if someone gives his wife three divorces, then he has disobeyed his Lord and his wife will be separated from him.

Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if someone gives his wife three divorces, then he has disobeyed his Lord and his wife will be separated from him.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the predecessors used to punish the one who gave three divorces in a single sitting.
