Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him), son of Murrah (may Allah have mercy on him), narrates that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me and I had applied saffron. He said, "O Ya'la! Do you have a wife?" I said, "No." He said, "Go and wash it off, wash it off, and do not apply it again." I went, washed it off, washed it again, and never applied it again.

Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) disliked the use of yellow color for men.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the use of saffron.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Suwad bin Amr (may Allah have mercy on him) who had applied yellow color. The Prophet said to him, "Mix another color with it, mix another color with it, use wars, use wars."

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the angels do not go near the person who has applied the yellow fragrance called Khuloq.

Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that when Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, came to Basra, he saw Qais bin 'Abad who had applied yellow dye. Hazrat Ash'ari, may Allah have mercy on him, looked at him, so he went and washed it off and returned. Hazrat Ash'ari, may Allah have mercy on him, said: How quick he is to understand!

Hazrat Yazid bin Abi Ziyad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila (may Allah have mercy on him) was invited to a wedding one night, where he applied a fragrance that had a yellowish tint. In the morning, there was a yellowish color in his beard. He washed it, but it did not come off, so he washed it again with soap.

Hazrat Ammar (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I returned from a journey and my wife applied something to me in which there was a yellowish tint. I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to my salam nor did he welcome me. He said, "Go and wash it off." I went and washed it, but its effect still remained. I came back and greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to my salam nor did he welcome me. Then he said, "Go and wash it off." I went and washed it, then I came back and greeted him with salam, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) welcomed me and said, "The angels do not come near the funeral of a disbeliever, a person in a state of major impurity (junub), or a man who applies yellow color."
