Should a Man Seek Permission Before Approaching His Slave Woman?
Hadith 18542
١٨٥٤٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: (نا) (١) سفيان بن (عيينة) (٢) عن (عبيد اللَّه) (٣) بن أبي يزيد سمع ابن عباس يقول: إنه لم يؤمر بها أكثر الناس: الإذن، وإني آمر جاريتي (هذه) (٤) أن تستأذن علي (٥).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that there was no command to seek permission before going to a slave-girl, but people started seeking permission excessively. I instruct my slave-girl to come to me only after seeking permission.
Hadith 18543
١٨٥٤٣ - حدثنا أبو خالد عن (عبد الملك) (١) عن عطاء (عن ابن عباس) (٢) قال: غلب الشيطان (الناس على الاستئذان) (٣) في (الساعات) (٤). . ﴿يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ﴾ [النور: ٥٨] (٥).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that in the matter of seeking permission, Satan has prevailed over the people. Allah Almighty says { الَّذِینَ مَلَکَتْ أَیْمَانُکُمْ وَالَّذِینَ لَمْ یَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْکُمْ }
Hadith 18544
١٨٥٤٤ - [حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: أخبرنا ابن عون عن محمد في قوله: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ﴾، قال: كان] (١) (أهلنا) (٢) يعلمونا أن نسلم قال: فكان أحدنا إذا جاء (يقول) (٣): السلام عليكم، أيدخل فلان؟.
Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, in the commentary of the verse { وَالَّذِینَ لَمْ یَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْکُمْ } of the Holy Qur'an, says that our family members used to teach us to greet with salam. When any of us would come, he would say "Assalamu Alaikum" and would also say, "May so-and-so enter?"
Hadith 18545
١٨٥٤٥ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أبي حصين عن أبي عبد الرحمن قال: نزلت في النساء: ﴿لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ﴾.
Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman says that the verse { لِیَسْتَأْذِنْکُمُ الَّذِینَ مَلَکَتْ أَیْمَانُکُمْ } of the Holy Qur'an was revealed regarding women.
Hadith 18546
١٨٥٤٦ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن موسى بن أبي عائشة عن الشعبي: ﴿لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ﴾، قال: ليست بمنسوخة، قلت: فإن الناس لا يعملون بها، قال: اللَّه المستعان.
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the verse of the Holy Qur'an { لِیَسْتَأْذِنْکُمُ الَّذِینَ مَلَکَتْ أَیْمَانُکُمْ } is not abrogated. I say that people do not know this, and help is sought only from Allah.
Hadith 18547
١٨٥٤٧ - حدثنا ابن نمير عن حنظلة قال: سمعت القاسم وسئل عن الإذن فقال: استأذن عند كل عورة، ثم هو طواف بعدها.
Hazrat Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about seeking permission, so he said: Seek permission for everything that is covered by a veil, then after that, it is the one who goes around.
