Those Who Say Fosterage Is Established Only by Breastfeeding a Child Under Two Years Old
Hadith 17927
١٧٩٢٧ - حدثنا حفص عن الشيباني عن أبي الضحى عن أبي عبد الرحمن (١) عن ابن مسعود قال: لا رضاع إلا ما كان في الحولين (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says that suckling is established only by the breastfeeding of a child who is less than two years old.
Hadith 17928
١٧٩٢٨ - [حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم قال: (قال) (١) عبد اللَّه: ⦗٤٤٢⦘ لا رضاع إللا ما كان في الحولين] (٢) (٣).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says that suckling is established only by the breastfeeding of a child who is less than two years old.
Hadith 17929
١٧٩٢٩ - حدثنا جرير عن ليث عن زبيد قال: قال علي: لا يحرم من الرضاع إلا ما كان في الحولين (١).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that suckling is established only by the breastfeeding of a child who is less than two years old.
Hadith 17930
١٧٩٣٠ - [حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عمرو عن ابن عباس قال: لا رضاع إلا ما كان في الحولين] (١) (٢).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) states that suckling is established only by the breastfeeding of a child who is less than two years old.
Hadith 17931
١٧٩٣١ - حدثنا ابن فضيل عن عاصم عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس قال: لا رضاع [بعد الفصال (١).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that if a child has been weaned, breastfeeding after that does not establish the relationship of rada‘ah (milk kinship).
Hadith 17932
١٧٩٣٢ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عبد اللَّه بن دينار عن ابن عمر قال: لا رضاع] (١) إلا ما كان في الصغر (٢).
Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that suckling is established only by the child breastfeeding.
Hadith 17933
١٧٩٣٣ - حدثنا وكيع عن يزيد بن إبراهيم عن الحسن قال: قال عمر: لا رضاع بعد الفصال (١).
Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if a child has been weaned, breastfeeding after that does not establish the relationship of rada‘ah (milk kinship).
Hadith 17934
١٧٩٣٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن أبي (جناب) (١) عن إسماعيل بن رجاء عن النزال ابن (سبرة) (٢) عن علي قال: لا رضاع بعد الفصال (٣).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if a child has been weaned, breastfeeding after that does not establish the relationship of fosterage.
Hadith 17935
١٧٩٣٥ - حدثنا عبدة عن هشام (بن) (١) عروة عن يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن (حاطب) (٢) (حدثه) (٣) أنه سأل أم سلمة (عن) (٤) الرضاع فقالت: لا رضاع إلا ما كان في (المهد) (٥) قبل الفطام (٦).
Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about breastfeeding, so she said that breastfeeding is only established when the child is in the cradle and has not yet been weaned.
Hadith 17936
١٧٩٣٦ - حدثنا عبدة عن هشام عن أبيه أن أبا هريرة سئل عن الرضاع فقال: لا يحرم من الرضاع إلا ما فتق الأمعاء وكان في الثدي قبل الفطام (١).
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about breastfeeding, so he said that breastfeeding is established by drinking enough milk to fill the intestines. And it should be in the breast before the child is weaned.
Hadith 17937
١٧٩٣٧ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه عن حجاج (بن حجاج) (١) عن أبي هريرة بمثله (٢).
It is narrated similarly through another chain of transmission.
Hadith 17938
١٧٩٣٨ - [حدثنا ابن نمير قال: (حدثنا) (١) هشام بن عروة عن أبيه عن ⦗٤٤٤⦘ حجاج (ابن حجاج) (٢) عن أبي هريرة بمثله] (٣).
It is narrated similarly through another chain.
Hadith 17939
١٧٩٣٩ - حدثنا ابن مهدي وأبو أسامة عن سفيان عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم أن علقمة مر بامرأة وهي ترضع صبيًا لها بعد الحولين فقال: لا (تسقيه داءك) (١).
Ibrahim narrates that Alqamah passed by a woman who was breastfeeding her child after two years. He said to her, "Do not feed him your illness."
Hadith 17940
١٧٩٤٠ - حدثنا ابن نمير عن عبد الملك عن عطاء قال: إذا (فطم) (١) الصبي فلا رضاع بعد الفطام.
Hazrat Ata says that if a child has been weaned, breastfeeding by him does not establish fosterage (raza'at).
Hadith 17941
١٧٩٤١ - حدثنا ابن نمير عن (عبيد اللَّه) (١) بن عمر عن نافع عن ابن عمر قال: لا يحرم من الرضاع إلا ما كان في الصغر (٢).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the prohibition of fosterage is established only by drinking milk during childhood.
Hadith 17942
١٧٩٤٢ - حدثنا أبو خالد عن يحيى بن سعيد عن سعيد بن المسيب قال: لا رضاع إلا ما كان في المهد وإلا ما أنبت اللحم والدم.
Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that suckling is established when the child is breastfed during infancy, and the amount is such that flesh and blood are formed from it.
Hadith 17943
١٧٩٤٣ - حدثنا حفص عن الشيباني عن الشعبي قال: ما كان من (رضاع) (١) أو سعوط في السنتين فهو رضاع وما كان بعد فليس برضاع.
Hazrat Sha'bi says that if breastfeeding takes place within two years, the prohibition of suckling is established. After this period, breastfeeding does not establish the prohibition of suckling.
