Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was requested to marry the daughter of Hazrat Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that she is my foster sister, and the relationships that are prohibited by lineage are also prohibited by fosterage.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is the reason that you show inclination to marry among the Quraysh and leave us aside?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Do you have any such woman (to propose)?" I said, "Yes, there is the daughter of Hazrat Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "She is not lawful for me, because she is my foster niece."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that once my foster uncle, Aflah bin Abi Al-Quais, came to me. By that time, the commandments regarding veiling had been revealed. He asked for permission to enter, but I refused him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said, "He is your uncle; allow him to meet you." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "A woman suckled me, not a man." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have said a strange thing."

Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Hazrat Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) submitted to the Prophet (peace be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Would you like to marry my sister, that is, the daughter of Abu Sufyan?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "She is not lawful for me." Hazrat Umm Habibah submitted, "I have heard that you have sent a marriage proposal for Durrah bint Abi Salamah." The Prophet (peace be upon him) inquired, "The daughter of Abu Salamah?" She said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By Allah! Even if she were not in my care, she would not be lawful for me, because she is my foster niece. Both her father and I were suckled by Thuwaibah. Do not invite me to marry your sisters and daughters."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) held the view that the relationships that are prohibited by lineage are also prohibited by breastfeeding.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not marry a woman who has been breastfed by your brother's wife, nor marry your father's wife, nor marry your son's wife.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that the relationships that are prohibited due to lineage are also prohibited due to breastfeeding.

Ibrahim says that the relationships that are prohibited by lineage are also prohibited by breastfeeding.

Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the relationships that are prohibited due to lineage are also prohibited due to breastfeeding.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Those relationships that are prohibited due to lineage are also prohibited due to breastfeeding."

Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah narrates that the relationships which are prohibited due to lineage are also prohibited due to breastfeeding.

Hazrat Bara narrates that it was suggested to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he marry the daughter of Hazrat Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him). He replied, "She is not lawful for me. She is my foster sister."
