Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qatadah says that I wrote a letter to Ibrahim asking him to inform me about the milk that establishes the prohibition of fosterage. So he wrote back to me that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that whether the amount of suckling is little or much, the prohibition is established by it.

Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the prohibition of suckling is established by a small or large amount of milk. Hazrat Mujahid says that I prefer the statement of Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) more.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked whether if a woman gives a child even one suckle of milk, does fosterage (raza‘at) become established by this? He replied: When the child has suckled, then that woman and her daughters become forbidden for him.

Hazrat Tawoos states that initially, the condition for the prohibition of suckling was ten sucklings, then it was said that even one suckling establishes the prohibition.

Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad state that even a single sip establishes prohibition.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that even a single sip establishes prohibition.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that even a single sip establishes prohibition.

Many elders state that whether a small or large amount of milk is consumed, the prohibition of suckling (raḍā‘ah) is established.
