Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when any of us was in the state of menstruation, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would instruct her to wear an izar (lower garment), and then he would have relations over the izar.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when any of us was in the state of menstruation, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would instruct her to wear an izar (lower garment) during the menstrual flow, and then he would have relations over the izar. And who among you can control his desires to the extent that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had control over his own self?

It is similarly narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her).

Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I was on the bed with the Prophet ﷺ when I began menstruating. I started to move back, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Stay in your place. It is sufficient for you to cover yourself with a cloth."

Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that if a menstruating woman has a cloth over her private area, then there is no harm in lying down with her.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that during menstruation, the area above the waist-wrapper is sufficient for intimacy.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that during menstruation, the area above the waist-wrapper is sufficient for intimacy.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that during menstruation, the area above the waist-wrapper is sufficient for intimacy. Do not look below that.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran reports that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked what benefit a man can derive from his wife during her menstrual period. She replied that the part above the waist-wrapper is permissible for him.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that when a woman, during her menstrual period, covers her private part with a cloth, then you may have relations with her.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that when a menstruating woman removes the impurity herself, then you may do whatever you wish.

Hazrat Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a man's body comes into contact with the blood of a menstruating woman, he can still have relations with her.

Hazrat Habib Jarami says that I asked Hazrat Abu Qalabah what pleasure a man can take from a woman during her menstruation. He replied that the scholars say that he may use the part above the waist-wrapper (izar).

Ibrahim says that when a woman is in the state of menstruation, you may use the part above her waist-wrapper.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that when a woman is in the state of menstruation, you may use the part above her waist-wrapper.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Harmalah says that a man asked Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib whether he could have intercourse with his wife when she was in the state of menstruation. He replied that you may have intercourse with her by placing a cloth between yourself and her.

Hazrat Hakam states that placing the sexual organ on the private part without penetration is permissible.

Hazrat Shaibah bin Hisham Rasabi narrates that I asked Hazrat Salim about a man who lies with his wife during her menstrual period. He replied that we, the family of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), keep away from them in such a state.

Hasan says that when a woman is in the state of menstruation, you may use the part above her waist-wrapper.

Hazrat Ubaidah says that when a woman is in the state of menstruation, you may use the part above her waist-wrapper.

Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would have relations with his wives during their menstruation, in such a way that the wife would be wearing a lower garment up to half of her thighs or knees.

Hasan says that there is no harm in having fun between the navel and the knees with a woman during her menstruation.

Hazrat Asim bin Amr Bajli narrates that some people from Iraq came to meet Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Who are you?" They replied, "We are Iraqis." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Have you come with permission?" They replied, "Yes." Then those people asked, "Can anything be done with a woman in the state of menstruation?" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You have asked me a question that no one has asked me since the time I learned this matter from the Prophet (peace be upon him)." Then Hazrat Umar said, "In the state of menstruation, a man may benefit from a woman over her lower garment."
