Hadith 17576
١٧٥٧٦ - حدثنا ابن علية عن سفيان عن أبي الزناد عن سليمان بن يسار عن زيد بن ثابت أن مروان سأله عنها فكرهها (١).
Hazrat Sulaiman bin Yasar says that Marwan asked Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit about this matter, so he considered it undesirable.
Hadith 17577
١٧٥٧٧ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عبد الكريم عن سعيد بن المسيب قال: لا يتزوج حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق.
Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that one cannot marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman has passed.
Hadith 17578
١٧٥٧٨ - حدثنا [حفص عن أشعث عن ابن سيرين عن عبيدة في رجل طلق امرأته وله أربع نسوة قال: لا يحل له أن يتزوج الخامسة حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق] (١).
Hazrat Ubaidah says that if a man has four women in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed.
Hadith 17579
١٧٥٧٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر عن (عائذ) (١) بن حبيب عن حجاج عن الشعبي عن علي قال: لا يتزوج (خامسة) (٢) حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق (٣).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a man has four women in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed.
Hadith 17580
١٧٥٨٠ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد قال: لا يتزوج حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق.
Hazrat Mujahid says that if a man has four wives in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed. Hazrat Ata says that if there is no inheritance or possibility of reconciliation between the two, then there is no harm in marrying.
Hadith 17582
١٧٥٨٢ - حدثنا عباد بن (عوام) (١) عن عبد الملك عن عطاء أنه سئل عن رجل كان له أربع نسوة فطلق إحداهن ثلاثًا، (أيتزوج) (٢) الخامسة؟ قال: لا؛ حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق.
Hazrat Ata was asked: If a man has four wives in his marriage and he divorces one of them, what is the ruling on marrying a fifth woman before the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced wife is completed? He replied: He cannot marry until the waiting period of the divorced wife is completed.
Hadith 17583
١٧٥٨٣ - حدثنا [ابن علية عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد قال: لا يتزوج حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق] (١).
Hazrat Mujahid says that if a man has four wives in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed. Hadith 17585
١٧٥٨٥ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن يونس عن الحسن أنه كان يكره أن يتزوج حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق.
Hasan says that if a man has four women in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed.
Hadith 17586
١٧٥٨٦ - حدثنا وكيع عن علي بن مبارك عن يحيى بن أبي كثير عن محمد بن إبراهيم التيمي أن عتبة بن (أبي) (١) سفيان كانت عنده أربع نسوة فطلق إحداهن (ثم تزوج خامسة قبل أن تنقضي) (٢) عدة التي (طلق) (٣) فسأل مروان ابن عباس فقال: لا؛ حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق (٤).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Ibrahim Taimi says that Utbah bin Abi Sufyan had four wives in his marriage. He divorced one and married a fifth before the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced wife was completed. Marwan asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about this, so he replied that one cannot marry a fifth before the waiting period of the fourth is completed.
Hadith 17587
١٧٥٨٧ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن ابن عون عن أبي صادق قال: لا يتزوج خامسة حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق.
Hazrat Abu Sadiq says that if a man has four women in his marriage and he divorces one of them, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period (‘iddah) of the divorced woman is completed.
Hadith 17588
١٧٥٨٨ - حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم قال: إذا كانت تحت الرجل أربع نسوة فطلق إحداهن فلا يتزوج خامسة حتى تنقضي عدة التي طلق، فإن ماتت فإن شاء فليتزوج من يومه ذلك (١).
Ibrahim says that if a man has four women in his marriage and he divorces one, then it is disliked to marry a fifth woman until the waiting period of the divorced woman is completed. If she dies, then her husband may marry (another) even on the same day if he wishes.
