Hadith 17237
١٧٢٣٧ - حدثنا وكيع عن علي بن (المبارك) (١) عن يحيى عن عكرمة أن عليًا لما أراد أن يبني بفاطمة قال له النبي ﷺ: "قدم شيئًا" (٢).
Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that when Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to have lawful relations with Hazrat Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give her a portion of the dowry."
Hadith 17238
١٧٢٣٨ - حدثنا هشيم عن أبي حمزة قال: شهدت ابن عباس وسأله رجل أنه تزوج امرأة فعسر عن صداقها فقال له ابن (عباس: إن لم تجد) (١) إلا نعلك فأعطها إياها ثم ادخل بها (٢).
Hazrat Abu Hamza narrates that once I was present with Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). A man asked him a question: A man has married but is unable to pay her dowry. What is the ruling for him? Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) replied: If there is nothing else, then give her even your shoe, and then have lawful relations with her.
Hadith 17239
١٧٢٣٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن خصيف عن سعيد بن (جبير) (١) قال: يعطيها (ولو) (٢) خمارًا.
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that he should certainly give her something before the lawful meeting, even if it is just a scarf.
Hadith 17240
١٧٢٤٠ - حدثنا حفص عن هشام عن ابن سيرين قال: كان يقول: يلقي عليها ولو ثوبًا ثم يدخل بها.
Hazrat Ibn Sirin used to say that even if he gives her just one piece of cloth, then meets her in a lawful (Shari'ah) manner with it.
Hadith 17241
١٧٢٤١ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن يونس عن الحسن.
Hasan and Ibrahim considered it undesirable for a man to have lawful relations with his wife without giving her any part of the dowry.
Hadith 17243
١٧٢٤٣ - حدثنا زيد بن حباب عن الضحاك بن عثمان قال: سئل الزهري عن رجل تزوج امرأة وهو (ملئ) (١) لصداقها أيدخل بها ولم يعطها شيئًا؟ قال: مضت السنة أن لا يدخل بها حتى يعطيها شيئًا (٢).
Hazrat Dhahak bin Uthman narrates that Hazrat Zuhri was asked about a man who, after marriage, is not able to pay the dowry to the woman—can he have intercourse with his wife? He replied that the established practice has been that until he gives something, he should not have lawful relations.
Hadith 17244
١٧٢٤٤ - حدثنا عبدة عن سعيد عن قتادة (قال) (١): يهدي شيئًا (٢).
Hazrat Qatadah says that before the lawful meeting, someone gives her something as a gift.
Hadith 17245
١٧٢٤٥ - (حدثنا شبابة) (١) قال: نا (هشام) (٢) بن (الغاز) (٣) عن نافع عن ابن عمر قال: لا يحل لمسلم أن يدخل على امرأة حتى يقدم (إليها) (٤) (ما قل أو كثر) (٥) (٦).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that it is not permissible for a Muslim to have a lawful meeting with his wife without giving her something, whether little or much.
Hadith 17246
١٧٢٤٦ - حدثنا ابن علية عن أيوب عن عكرمة أن النبي ﷺ قال لعلي (١): "إعْطِهَا دِرْعَكَ (الحَطِميّة) (٢) " (٣).
Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Give your wife your Hatami cloak."
