Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about the witnesses for breastfeeding, so he said that one man and one woman are sufficient.

Hazrat Uqbah bin Harith narrates that I married the daughter of Abu Ihab Tamimi. On the morning after the wedding, a woman from Makkah came and said, "I have breastfed both of you." Uqbah rode to Madinah and presented the entire matter to the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, also mentioning that he had asked the girl's family but they expressed ignorance about it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Now it has been said!" So Uqbah bin Harith separated from that woman and married someone else.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states that when a woman who acknowledges having breastfed is among trustworthy people, then her testimony regarding breastfeeding is acceptable and her oath will be considered valid.

Hazrat Ikrimah bin Khalid says that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had rejected the testimony of a woman in the matter of breastfeeding.

Hazrat Bukair bin Faid narrates that once a man got married, and then a woman came and claimed that she had breastfed both of them. The man took the matter to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He said, "She is your wife; no one can make her unlawful for you. However, if you separate from her, it is better." He then asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about this matter, and he also said the same.

Hazrat Zuhri narrates that during the time of Hazrat Usman (may Allah be pleased with him), a woman came to a husband and wife and claimed that she had breastfed both of them. Upon this, Hazrat Usman (may Allah be pleased with him) separated the two.

Hazrat Aamir says that the judges used to separate a husband and wife in the case of breastfeeding based on the testimony of one woman.

Hazrat Zuhri says that the testimony of one intelligent woman is sufficient in the matter of breastfeeding.
