Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When I set out for any task, I do not turn away from it. I did not drive the sacrificial animal; I made it an ‘Umrah. So, whoever among you does not have a sacrificial animal should become lawful and make it an ‘Umrah. Hazrat Suraqah stood up and asked, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Is this only for this year or forever?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced his fingers and said, “‘Umrah has been included in Hajj. No, rather, it is forever and ever.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that people came with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for Hajj. He (peace be upon him) ordered that it be made into Umrah. Then he said: When I intend to do something, I do not turn away from it, but Umrah has been incorporated into Hajj until the Day of Judgment. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) interlaced his fingers into each other.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that indeed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered into the state of Ihram for Hajj, and we also entered into Ihram along with him. When we proceeded further, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him should come out of the state of Ihram. And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a sacrificial animal with him, so he did not come out of the state of Ihram.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that we set out with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) during the months of Hajj, in the days of Hajj, having donned the Ihram for Hajj. When we reached the place of Sarif, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: Whoever among you does not have a sacrificial animal with him, it is preferable for him to come out of the state of Ihram for Hajj and make it for Umrah instead, so they should do so.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: This is ‘Umrah, we have benefited from it, so those who do not have a sacrificial animal should become halal (towards ‘Umrah). Indeed, until the Day of Judgment, ‘Umrah has been included in Hajj.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that performing Hajj Tamattu' was specific for the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that it is not permissible for any person to change his intention from Hajj to Umrah after donning the Ihram for Hajj, except for those who were with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Ibn Zubair said: Perform only Hajj, and leave aside the statement of your officials. When this matter reached Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he said: O person whose heart and eyes Allah Almighty has blinded, did you not ask your mother? So he asked his mother, and she said: We set out for Hajj with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he commanded us, so all of us became halal (came out of the state of ihram), until smoke from fire rose between the men and women.
