Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah says that if a Muhrim kills a monitor lizard, then two handfuls of wheat are obligatory upon him.

Hazrat Tariq narrates that we went for Hajj. While we were on the way, one of us, who was in the state of Ihram, crushed a monitor lizard under his foot. Then he came to Hazrat Umar so that you may give a verdict regarding it. Hazrat Umar said to him, "Bring another judge with you." So both of them decided on such a goat which gathers both water and tree (i.e., it grazes and drinks water, not so young that it only survives on milk). Then Hazrat Umar recited the blessed verse: { یَحْکُمُ بِہٖ ذَوَا عَدْلٍ مِّنْکُمْ }, (Let two just men among you judge).

Hazrat Ata says that for killing a lizard, a goat is obligatory.
