Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Zubair stayed in Makkah Mukarramah for two years, and he used to enter into Ihram with the sighting of the moon of Dhul-Hijjah.

Hazrat Ata says that I submitted to Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the moon has been sighted, so you assumed Ihram from your place. Then, when the next year came, I submitted that the moon has been sighted, at that time you were in the House of Allah, you took off your clothes and then assumed Ihram. Then, when the third year came, I submitted to you that the moon has been sighted, you said: Surely, I am among the Companions, I do what they used to do. Then you remained without Ihram until the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah.

Hazrat Umar said to the people of Makkah: What has happened that I see you people in comfort, whereas the pilgrims are in a disheveled state? When you see the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah, then enter into Ihram.

When Hasan sighted the moon of Dhu al-Hijjah, he would enter into ihram from Makkah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) came and performed Tawaf and Sa'i, then stayed for four or five days without Ihram, then on the tenth he donned the Ihram for Hajj. Then, when he came the second time, he stayed without Ihram until the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah, then on the eighth he donned the Ihram for Hajj when he let the camels go towards Mina. Hazrat Ata says that this is preferable in my view.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that the people of Makkah will enter into the state of Ihram for Hajj on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to remain without Ihram until the last moments up to the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah.
