Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Sabit that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever departs from this world without having performed the obligatory Hajj (Hajj of Islam), and he was not prevented by any illness, compulsion, or a tyrant ruler, then he may die in whatever state he wishes, whether as a Jew or as a Christian.

Hazrat Al-Aswad said to a wealthy person that if you die without performing Hajj, I will not offer your funeral prayer.

Hazrat Mujahid bin Rumi narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila, and Hazrat Abdullah bin Ma’qil about a person who, despite having the means, dies without performing Hajj. Hazrat Saeed said, “For him is the Fire.” Hazrat Ibn Ma’qil said, “He died in a state of disobedience to Allah.” And Hazrat Ibn Abi Laila said, “If his guardian performs Hajj on his behalf, I hope (i.e., he will be saved from the punishment of Allah).”

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that if my wealthy neighbor dies without performing Hajj, I will not offer his funeral prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that if a person, despite having the means, dies without performing Hajj, then on the Day of Judgment he will be raised in such a state that "disbeliever" will be written between his two eyes.

Hazrat Umar narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever departs from this world without having performed the obligatory Hajj (Hajj of Islam), and he was not prevented by any illness, compulsion, or a tyrant ruler, then he may die in whatever state he wishes, whether as a Jew or as a Christian.

It is narrated in the same manner from Hazrat Umar.
