Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Malik says that the place of the House of Allah is Bakkah, and the place other than that is Makkah.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that the area around the Ka'bah is Bakkah, and what is beyond that is Makkah.

Hazrat Ibn Zubair states that it is called Bakkah because people come here to perform Hajj.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair was asked why it is called Bakkah? He replied, because people crowd here and due to the rush, they push each other.

Hazrat Amr bin Saeed says that it is called Bakkah because people crowd here and, due to the rush, they jostle each other.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that Makkah has been filled with crowds; in this name, both masculine and feminine are used (that is, this name can be used both as masculine and as feminine).

Hazrat Mujahid says that its name is Bakkah because here people push each other, and here things are permissible which are not permissible elsewhere.

Hazrat Atiyyah says that the place of the Ka'bah is Bakkah, and what is around it is Makkah.
