Some mark the animal for sacrifice on the right side, others on the left
Hadith 14377
١٤٣٧٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن هشام الدستوائي عن قتادة عن أبي حسان عن ابن عباس (أن) (١) النبي ﷺ (أشعر الهدي) (٢) في السنام الأيمن ⦗١٨٠⦘ (وأماط) (٣) عنه الدم (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) marked the right hump of the sacrificial camel and smeared blood on it.
Hadith 14378
١٤٣٧٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير بن عبد الحميد عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه أنه كان إذا أراد أن يشعر البدنة أشعرها من الجانب الأيمن.
Whenever Hazrat Urwah intended to perform the Ish'ar of a camel, he would do the Ish'ar on its right side.
Hadith 14379
١٤٣٧٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبدة بن سليمان عن يحيى بن سعيد عن نافع عن ابن عمر أنه كان إذا كانت بدنة واحدة أشعرها في شقها الأيسر بيده اليمنى وإذا كانت بدنتين أشعر إحداهما في الشق الأيمن والأخرى في الأيسر (١).
If Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) had one camel, he would perform Ish'ar on its left side with his right hand, and if he had two camels, he would perform it on the right side of one camel and on the left side of the other.
Hadith 14380
١٤٣٨٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن سالم عن سعيد بن جبير أنه قال: يشعر في الأيمن.
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair would recite poetry on the right side.
Hadith 14381
١٤٣٨١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن سليمان الرازي عن أفلح عن القاسم أنه كان يشعر في الأيمن.
Hazrat Qasim would gesture to the right side during Hadi.
Hadith 14382
١٤٣٨٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن منصور عن مجاهد أنه قال: (أشعر) (١) من حيث شئت.
Hazrat Mujahid says that you may gesture in whichever direction you wish.
