Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir narrates that we performed Hajj with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and women and children were also with us. So we recited the Talbiyah on their behalf and performed the Rami on their behalf.

Ayyub narrates: I saw the child of Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Qasim, so I asked, "What do you do with him?" People said, "We place pebbles on his palm; if he becomes unable, then the stoning is performed on his behalf."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) performed Hajj with children, then those among them who had the strength to perform Rami (stoning) would do it themselves, and for those who did not have the strength, Rami would be done on their behalf.

It was asked from Hazrat Ata whether the stoning (Rami) can be done on behalf of children? He replied: Yes.

Hazrat Ata says regarding the child who enters into Ihram, his father or guardian should recite the Talbiyah on his behalf.
