Explanation of Allah’s statement: {A ransom of fasting...}
Hadith 14291
١٤٢٩١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا (عبد اللَّه) (١) بن نمير قال: حدثنا زكريا بن أبي زائدة عن عبد الرحمن بن الأصبهاني قال: حدثنا ابن معقل قال: (حدثني) (٢) ⦗١٦٠⦘ كعب بن عجرة قال: قال لي رسول اللَّه ﷺ: و (كانت) (٣) هوام رأسه (أذته) (٤) قال لي: "إذبح شاةً نُسكًا، أو صم ثلاثة أيام أو أطعم ستة (مساكين) (٥) بين كل (مسكينين) (٦) (صاعا) (٧) من تمر" (٨).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b bin Ujrah that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Sacrifice a goat to attain closeness to Allah, or fast for three days, or feed sixty needy people, in such a way that each pair of needy persons receives one sa’ of dates.
Hadith 14292
١٤٢٩٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن (منصور عن) (١) إبراهيم ومجاهد (في) (٢) قوله تعالى (٣): ﴿فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ﴾ [البقرة: ١٩٦]، (قالا) (٤): الصيام ثلاثة أيام، والصدقة ثلاثة آصع، والنسك شاة.
Hazrat Mujahid and Ibrahim, in the explanation of Allah Almighty’s command { فَفِدْیَۃٌ مِّنْ صِیَامٍ اَوْ صَدَقَۃٍ اَوْ نُسُکٍ }, state that by fasting is meant three fasts, by charity is meant three sa’ (measures), and by sacrifice is meant the slaughtering of a goat.
Hadith 14293
١٤٢٩٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن يونس عن الحسن قال: الفدية صيام عشرة أيام والصدقة عشرة مساكين والنسك ذبيحة.
Hasan says that "al-fidya" means ten fasts, "al-sadaqah" means feeding ten needy people, and "al-nusuk" means a sacrifice.
Hadith 14294
١٤٢٩٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا سهل بن يوسف (عن التيمي) (١) عن أبي مجلز قال: الصيام ثلاثة أيام والصدقة (ستة) (٢) مساكين، والنسك شاة.
Hazrat Abu Majliz says that "al-siyam" refers to three fasts, "al-sadaqah" refers to feeding sixty needy people, and "al-nusuk" refers to sacrificing a goat.
Hadith 14295
١٤٢٩٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن نمير عن عبد الملك عن عطاء مثله.
It is also narrated in the same manner from Hazrat Ata.
Hadith 14296
١٤٢٩٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: (حدثنا) (١) أبو خالد الأحمر عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن علقمة قال: الصيام ثلاثة أيام، والصدقة ثلاثة آصع بين ستة مساكين، والنسك شاة.
Hazrat Alqamah says that "al-siyam" refers to fasting for three days, "al-sadaqah" refers to feeding sixty needy people with three sa’ of food, and "al-nusuk" refers to slaughtering a goat.
Hadith 14297
١٤٢٩٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو (خالد) (١) عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم قال: سألني سعيد بن جبير، فأخبرته.
Ibrahim says that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair asked me, so I informed him, and Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) also says the same.
Hadith 14299
١٤٢٩٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم قال: حدثته [سعيد بن جبير.
It is narrated from Ibrahim in the same manner.
Hadith 14301
١٤٣٠١ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا (يحيى بن يمان) (١) عن (سفيان) (٢) (٣) عن ابن أبي نجيح عن طاوس (قال) (٤): صيام ثلاثة أيام ونسك شاة وصدقة ستة مساكين.
Hazrat Tawoos says that by this verse is meant three days of fasting, sacrificing a goat, and giving charity to sixty needy people.
Hadith 14302
١٤٣٠٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يحيى بن يمان عن سفيان عن السدي عن أبي مالك مثله.
It is narrated in the same way from Hazrat Abu Malik.
Hadith 14303
١٤٣٠٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا كثير بن هشام عن جعفر بن برقان عن عكرمة قال: سمعته يقول فيمن حج فأصابه مرض أو (أذى) (١) (من رأسه) (٢): فعليه صيام (عشرة) (٣) أيام، أو إطعام عشرة مساكين، أو نسك شاة.
Hazrat Ikrimah says that any pilgrim who falls ill or suffers from pain in his head must either fast for ten days, feed sixty needy people, or sacrifice a goat.
