Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever reaches Arafat before the break of dawn has attained the standing of Arafat, and whoever misses the standing of Arafat, his Hajj is missed.

It is also narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Hazrat Ibn Zubair state that whoever reaches Arafat during the night has attained Hajj.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that whoever stayed at Arafah during the night has attained Hajj, if he adopts piety and righteousness.

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that whoever spends the night at Arafah, his Hajj is complete even if he does not find the congregation (gathering) of the people.

It is also narrated in the same way from Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib, Hazrat Sulaiman bin Yasar, Hazrat Ata, and Hazrat Salim.

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that whoever spends the night at Arafah, his Hajj is complete even if he does not find the congregation (gathering) of the people.

Hazrat Nafi' says that whoever stayed at Arafat before the break of dawn has attained Hajj, and whoever could not do so, his Hajj is missed. He should perform Tawaf of the Ka'bah, perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, shave his head, exit the state of Ihram, and perform Hajj again the following year. He should also offer a sacrifice, and if he cannot offer a sacrifice, then he should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days after returning home.

Hasan and Hazrat Ata say that whoever attains the standing at Arafah before the break of dawn has attained Hajj, even if he does not find the congregation of people in Arafah.

Ibrahim says that whoever missed Arafah or the congregation, his Hajj has lapsed.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that whoever attains the standing at Arafah before the break of dawn has attained Hajj.

Hazrat Urwah bin Mudarris at-Ta'i performed Hajj during the time of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He could not find the people except when they were at Muzdalifah. Then he presented himself in the noble service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I followed my own desire and exhausted my mount, and by Allah, I did not leave any hill except that I stayed upon it. Has my Hajj been completed?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performed this prayer with us and proceeded from Arafat towards Mina before that, during the day or night, indeed his impurity has been removed and his Hajj has been completed."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ya'mar that he says: I heard when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was staying in Arafat, and people from among the people of Makkah were coming to him. They submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How is Hajj performed?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hajj is (standing at) Arafat. So whoever comes to Arafat on the night of gathering before the rising of dawn, his Hajj is complete. There are three days in Mina, so whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him either." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a person his companion on the ride, who was announcing these words.
