Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Jubair bin Mut'im that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on Marwah, and in his blessed hand was the tip of a spear with which he cut a little of his hair, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: I have included the rulings of Umrah into the rulings of Hajj until the Day of Judgment. There is no "Sarurah" (virginity or a person who has not performed Hajj) in Islam, and the blood of the camel will be shed at the time of sacrifice, and recite the Talbiyah in a loud voice.

Hazrat Ata says that the Companions of the Prophet ended their Ihram by shortening (their hair), and they did not shave their heads.

Hazrat Hisham says that I performed Hajj and Umrah with my respected father. My hair was up to my shoulders. I trimmed a little of my hair, but he did not order me to shave my head.

Ibrahim says that when a person performs Hajj for the first time, he should have his hair shaved. Then, if he performs Hajj a second time, he may either have his hair shaved or trimmed, but shaving is preferable. And if a person performs Umrah but has not performed Hajj before, then if he wishes, he may have his hair shaved, or if he wishes, he may have it trimmed. And if he performs Tamattu', then he should have his hair trimmed first, then shaved.

It was asked from Hazrat Ata whether the person performing Hajj for the first time should shave his head or shorten his hair? He replied that it is his choice; if he wishes, he may shave his head, and if he wishes, he may shorten his hair.

Hasan says regarding the person who has not performed Hajj before, that if he wishes, he may have his head shaved, and if he wishes, he may have his hair shortened.

Muhammad says that Hazrat Alqamah and Hazrat Aswad performed Hajj, or one of them performed Hajj and the other performed Umrah, so one of them had his head shaved and the other had his hair shortened.

Ibrahim states that the Companions preferred to have their heads shaved during the first Hajj and the first Umrah.
