Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a person reciting the Talbiyah on behalf of Shubrumah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you have performed Hajj before, then recite the Talbiyah on behalf of Shubrumah; otherwise, recite the Talbiyah on your own behalf.

It is narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) heard a person reciting the Talbiyah on behalf of Shubrumah. He said: "Woe to you, who is Shubrumah?" The person mentioned the relationship between himself and Shubrumah. He asked: "Have you performed Hajj for yourself before?" The person replied: "No." He said: "Then perform this Hajj on your own behalf first."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not see any harm if a person had not performed Hajj himself before, yet performed Hajj on behalf of someone else.

Hazrat Mujahid was asked whether a person who has not performed Hajj himself can do it on behalf of another person? He replied: This Hajj will suffice for both him and his companion.

Hasan did not see any harm in a person performing Hajj on behalf of someone else even if he himself had not performed Hajj before.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that Allah Almighty will expand this one Hajj for both of them (and will accept it on behalf of both).
