Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that the companions of the Prophet considered giving charity to be superior to performing Hajj repeatedly.

It was asked from Hazrat Hajjaj that if a person has already performed the rites of Hajj, should he perform Hajj again or free a slave? He replied: No, rather he should free a slave.

Some neighbors came to Hazrat Sha’bi and said, “We want to go for Hajj, but we have some chaste neighbors who are in need. What is your opinion? Should we give our belongings and other things to them, or should we go for Hajj?” He replied, “By Allah, the reward of charity is very great, and in my view, nothing can equal spending wealth on such occasions and places.”

Hazrat Tawus says that of all the things people spend, the greatest reward is for the blood that is shed on the Day of Sacrifice, except that if there is a needy relative who is a close kin, then maintaining ties of kinship with him is a deed of even greater reward and merit than this.

Hazrat Hussain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "For me, spending one sa’ or two sa’ on the Ahl al-Bayt daily in Madinah during a month is more beloved than performing Hajj after Hajj."

Hazrat Dahhak says that after the fulfillment of obligatory duties, the most beloved act to Allah Almighty is feeding the poor.
