Should the seven fasts be consecutive or can they be separate days?
Hadith 13453
١٣٤٥٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا حفص عن حجاج عن عطاء قال: ﴿وَسَبْعَةٍ (١) إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ﴾ [البقرة: ١٩٦]، قال: إن شاء صامها في الطريق، وإن شاء بمكة.
Hazrat Ata, regarding the verse of the Holy Quran { وَسَبْعَۃٍ إذَا رَجَعْتُمْ }, says: If he wishes, he may observe the seven fasts on the way, and if he wishes, he may observe them in Makkah.
Hadith 13454
١٣٤٥٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد القطان عن هشام عن الحسن في صيام السبعة (الأيام) (١)، قال: إن شاء صام في الطريق وإن شاء إذا رجع إلى أهله.
Hasan says regarding the six days of fasting that if one wishes, he may observe them while on the way, and if he wishes, he may observe them after returning home.
Hadith 13455
١٣٤٥٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا ابن فضيل عن ليث عن مجاهد قال: صم السبعة إن شئت في الطريق، وإن شئت إذا رجعت إلى أهلك ولا (تفرق) (١) بينهن.
Hazrat Mujahid says that the seven fasts, if one wishes, may be observed while on the journey itself, and if one wishes, may be observed after reaching home, but they should be kept consecutively without any break in between.
Hadith 13456
١٣٤٥٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا جرير عن منصور عن مجاهد قال: إن شاء صام في الطريق وإن شاء (إذا) (١) رجع (إلى أهله) (٢).
Hazrat Mujahid says that if he wishes, he may keep it on the way, and if he wishes, he may take it back home and keep it.
Hadith 13457
١٣٤٥٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن إبراهيم بن مرثد عن ابن أبي نجيح عن طاوس ﴿وَسَبْعَةٍ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ﴾ قال: إن شاء فرق.
Hazrat Tawus, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَسَبْعَۃٍ إذَا رَجَعْتُمْ }, says that if one wishes, he may keep them on separate days and not consecutively.
