Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Miswar bin Makhramah narrates that a Muhrimah should divide her hair into three parts and then cut one third.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that a woman in the state of Ihram will cut her hair equal to the length of a fingertip.

Hazrat Hajjaj says that I asked Hazrat Ata about a woman's hair. He replied: She will cut some hair from both sides of the head; this is her being lawful.

Hazrat Hafsa bint Sirin, regarding women cutting their hair, says that I very much prefer that a young woman should not cut much of her hair, and if an older woman wishes, she may cut more of her hair, but even then she should not cut more than a quarter.

It was asked from Hasan how a mahram woman should cut her hair? He replied: She should cut some hair from the front part of her head, that is sufficient.

Hazrat Shu’bah says that I asked Hazrat Hakam, “How much hair should a woman in ihram cut?” He replied: She may cut as much hair as she wishes; there is no specific limit prescribed.

Ibrahim says that a mahram woman will cut (some of) both her long and short hair.

Ibrahim says that I asked Hazrat al-Sarurah, "How much hair should a woman cut?" She replied, "This much," then placed her thumb on the second joint of her finger (the length of two finger joints).

Hazrat Uqbah bin Abu Salih narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair about this matter. He replied, "Women know more about it."

Ibrahim says: A woman will cut her hair equal to the length of her fingertips.

Hazrat Aamir was asked whether it is better for a woman in Ihram to cut all her hair or just some of it? He replied, "To cut some hair, because the noble wives of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also used to do the same."

Ibrahim says that a woman will cut a portion of both her long and short hair.
