Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Haneen says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Hazrat Miswar bin Makhrama had a disagreement regarding washing the head while in the state of Ihram. He sent me to Hazrat Abu Ayyub. When I came to him, he was bathing at a well. I said to him, "Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), your nephew, has sent me to you and asked how you saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wash his head while in the state of Ihram?" He took water and poured it over his head, then he moved forward and backward, and said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wash his head in the state of Ihram in this manner." Then I returned to those companions and informed them of what he had said. Hazrat Miswar said, "I will never disagree with you after this."

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that Hazrat Umar said to me: "Come, let us put our heads in water and see which of us can endure longer," although at that time both of us were in the state of Ihram.

Hazrat Ma'bad says that I went out with my maternal aunt Hazrat Maymunah. I had applied honey or some gum on my head and at that time I was in the state of Ihram. It caused me hardship, so I asked Hazrat Maymunah about it. She said, "Dip your head in water several times."

Hazrat Muslim al-Qari says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Can I pour water on my head while in the state of Ihram?" He replied, "There is no harm in that. Indeed, Allah the Exalted says { اِنَّ اللّٰہَ یُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِیْنَ وَ یُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَھِّرِیْنَ } Allah the Exalted loves those who repent and those who keep themselves clean."

Hazrat Mujahid says that there is no harm in performing ghusl (ritual bath) with the water of a Muhrim.

Hazrat Abu Umamah al-Taimi says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "Can a Muhrim perform ghusl (ritual bath)?" He replied, "In that case, the hair will become even more disheveled."

Hazrat Tawus says that there is no harm in washing the head or submerging in water during Ihram.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that a Muhrim may perform ghusl (ritual bath) with water if he wishes.

Ibrahim says that there is no harm for a Muhrim to perform Ghusl (ritual bath) other than for Janabah (major impurity).

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Umar says that I poured water over Hazrat Salim while he was in the state of Ihram. He forbade me from pouring water over his head.

Hasan says that there is no harm in a pilgrim bathing, apart from the state of major ritual impurity (janabah).

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that we were bathing and diving in a small canal that flowed from the sea at the place of Juhfa. Hazrat Umar was watching us and did not object to this, even though we were all in the state of Ihram.
