If someone dies and i'tikaf remains due on him
Hadith 12971
١٢٩٧١ - حدثنا أبو (الأحوص) (١) عن إبراهيم بن مهاجر عن عامر بن مصعب ⦗٣٧١⦘ أن عائشة اعتكفت عن (أخيها بعد ما مات) (٢) (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir bin Mus'ab that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) performed i'tikaf in place of her brother after his death.
Hadith 12973
١٢٩٧٣ - حدثنا عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث عن حماد بن سلمة عن (عبيد اللَّه ابن) (١) عبد اللَّه بن عتبة أن امرأة نذرت أن تعتكف عشرة أيام، فماتت (فلم) (٢) تعتكف، فقال ابن عباس (٣): اعتكف عن أمك.
It is narrated from Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah that a woman had vowed to observe i'tikaf for ten days, but she passed away and could not perform the i'tikaf. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Observe i'tikaf on behalf of your mother.
Hadith 12974
١٢٩٧٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن الحكم عن إبراهيم قال: لا (يقضى) (١) عن ميت اعتكاف.
Ibrahim says that the missed I'tikaf should not be made up on behalf of the deceased.
Hadith 12975
١٢٩٧٥ - حدثنا معتمر بن سليمان عن أبيه قال: كان طاوس يقول في النذر على الميت: يقضيه ورثته بينهم: إن كان على رجل صوم سنة إن شاؤوا صاموا كل إنسان ثلاثة أشهر.
Hazrat Tawus, regarding a vow made for a deceased person, says that a decision will be made among his heirs, and if someone has fasts of a year due upon him, then if the heirs wish, they may observe the fasts; each of the heirs will observe three months of fasting.
