Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in a marfu’ form that a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have had intercourse with my wife during her menstruation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give half a dinar in charity.

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in a marfu’ form that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give half a dinar in charity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give charity of one dinar or half a dinar.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah narrates that a person came to Hazrat Abu Bakr and said, "I saw in a dream that it was as if my urine was blood." He replied, "I think you have had intercourse with your wife during her menstrual period?" The man said, "Yes." He said, "Fear Allah and do not do this again."

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that if a person has intercourse with his wife during her menstrual period, he should give one or half a dinar in charity.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that he should seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Ibrahim was asked about a man who had intercourse with his wife during her menstruation. He replied: He has committed a sinful act; he should seek forgiveness from Allah for it.

A narration similar to this is also reported from Hazrat Sha'bi.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that he should seek forgiveness, and Hasan says that the same expiation applies to him as applies to one who performs zihar.

According to Hasan, the same expiation applies to a person who has intercourse with his wife during her menstruation as applies to one who practices zihar.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Qasim narrates from his father that if a person has intercourse with his wife during her menstrual period, he should seek forgiveness and repent to Allah Almighty.

Hazrat Ata says that he should seek forgiveness from Allah.

Hazrat Ata says that I asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) what if a person has intercourse with his wife during her menstrual period? He replied: He should give one dinar in charity.

Ibrahim says that there is nothing (no penalty) upon him, but he should not do so again.

Hazrat Hammad says that this is a sin, seeking forgiveness from Allah.

Hazrat Umar asked Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) what is your ruling about a person who has intercourse with his wife during her menstrual period? He replied: There is no expiation upon him, but he should repent.
